Nordic Unmanned | High-end products deserves a high-end showcase

The following case is about a company in rapid growth and its need to be able to reflect true expertise via their most important digital channel. The website. This case should be interesting for you who realize (or are still on the fence about) how important the digital window to the world is, to you and your future business opportunities.

Background

Nordic Unmanned is a Norwegian company that delivers high-end products and services related to drones and data capture. They have delivered tailor made drone services in 13+ European countries. Nordic Unmanned operates in several areas where drones can deliver superior solutions within maritime, security and logistics.

Digital channels are becoming an increasingly natural extension of us as people and consumers, which means they are becoming increasingly important for all companies in the meeting with the customer.

Challenges and needs

Nordic Unmanned went public (Euronext Growth Oslo) at the end of 2020. One of the effects that comes from going public is that the public eye suddenly looks at you much more closely, and you attract far more people who are curious about what you are doing.

Getting more traffic and attention is not a bad thing, quite the contrary, and it doesn't really matter if your company is doing something as dramatic as going public, or just going live with a marketing campaign. However, it is more important than ever that a company can reflect the competence, qualities and values via the digital platforms.

Nordic Unmanned's biggest challenge and Layer's most important task in this project was to design and develop a new website in the shortest possible time, that could satisfy needs of communication and secure the company's future growth.

Company goals and project KPIs

  • Analyze and understand the users needs when it comes to information and functionality.
  • Develop a platform that can attract more customers and investors.
  • Create a website experience that reflects the company's first-class technology and expertise.

What to do, where to start?

In the beginning of a project like this there are several questions to be answered. For us, it's essential that we get to know the company and the people that we're working with before we start executing.

These are some of the topics we wanted to explore before we started working:

  • Who are Nordic Unmanned? What are their USPs?
  • Who are their clients and what are they looking for online?
  • Demands, functionality and special features
  • Content
  • Images
  • Brand identity and tone-of-voice
  • Scalability
  • Security
  • GDPR concerns

Solution proposal and execution

In order to get started in a proper manner we proposed kick-starting the collaboration with a Pre-project. The meaning of a pre-project is, shortly put, to make a proper plan and to scope out the main project. We do this in order to make sure that no stone is left unturned, and to ensure that every aspect, requirement, consideration and need is accounted for.

These are some of the aspects involved in the pre-project and main project:

  • Startup workshop
  • Meetings and discussion
  • Research
  • Presenting alternatives
  • Documentation
  • Wire-framing & iterations
  • Design & iterations
  • Programming & development
  • Quality assurance
  • Redirects & technical SEO
  • Launching
  • Security, back-ups and hosting
  • Continuous updates and improvements

Results - What did the client think of the process and results?

We needed to develop a digital platform that reflects the expertise we possess, both through the user experience and design. With Layer, we found all the expertise we were looking for under one roof. Our chosen partners showed a good understanding of the task, at the same time as they possess values and have a vision that we can recognize ourselves in”
